This has been a fantastic year for technology that was featured in the 1989 hit Back to the Future Part II. First of all, an actual hoverboard has been making the rounds these past few weeks. This is not a hoax, or even a scam. It’s a real, working hoverboard that uses magnet technology. So, one wonders, since we now have hoverboards, where are our self-lacing shoes? Wasn’t that promised to exist by 2015 as well. Michael J. Fox does not lie! Well, guess what? They are going to exist right on schedule. Here are a snazzy looking pair of shoes that lace all by themselves.
Introducing the Powerlace. With a name like that, one would think they come equipped with power laces. You would not be wrong. These shoes lace all by themselves. No longer will we be forced to experience the humiliation of bending down to tie our own shoes! Thank goodness for that. They work using using a sort of pulley system, with no actual motors of breakable parts included in the actual shoe. This is good news because, well, shoes tend to get wet and suffer other indignations on the regular. Your body actually powers the dang thing, which is always nice to see.
The good news? These shoes seem pretty awesome. The bad news? They aren’t available in stores yet. Expect these to pop up in Back to the Future 2-themed stores sometime in 2015. You can pre-order your very own pair right now, however. Just sprint on over to their Kickstarter page and plunk down a couple of hundos.
