This $12,000 Watch Has Its Own Atomic Clock

Not all smartwatches are created equal. Some specialize in interacting with your phone, tablet or other every day devices. Some track your vital signs, including your heart rate and running distances. Heck, some just tell you when you are gonna die(really.) In short, there is a smartwatch out there to suit just about every taste. But what about people who want to tell time so exactly that it would require the use of a bona fide atomic clock? Don’t worry. There’s a watch for those people too.

Introducing this bad boy, created by noted watch manufacturer Bathys Hawaii. It can tell exact time as if it was embedded with its very own atomic clock because, well, it was embedded with its very own atomic clock. You’ll essentially turn into a walking, talking national super power when you are wearing this thing. The Cesium 133(cool name) features a single processing chip that includes a laser, a heater, a sealed cavity of cesium gas, a microwave filter and a photodiode detector. Essentially it’s the exact same tech the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) uses to tell time. This thing is exact. How exact? It’ll tell accurate time within 1 second per thousand years. Whoa.

Of course, this is some pretty fancy tech to be shrunken down to fit in a wrist watch. The price reflects this stunning achievement, and then some. Just how much will it set you back to wear an atomic clock on your person? A whopping $12,000. You read that right. Twelve thousand bucks. You can wear this while cruising around in your private submarine! Life is grand.
