Princess Cruises will preview its Ocean Medallion wearable device to the trade in Europe at the Wearable Technology Show in March ahead of its November consumer launch. Tony Roberts, Vice President UK & Europe, will present a keynote address at the event, which takes place 7-8 March 2017 in London.

Roberts’ presentation – ‘Medallion: insight into how Carnival/Princess engineered the medallion – the thinking behind it, what insights it’s delivered on our audience and how we see the project moving forward’ – is scheduled for 1:20pm on Wednesday 8 March.

Tony Roberts said: “Through this innovative new technology platform we are able to offer personalised guest experiences that are unavailable anywhere else on the planet. We believe we are leading the travel industry in the way that consumers enjoy their holidays in the future.”

Princess Cruises, a long-time innovator within the cruise industry, will be the first Carnival Corporation brand to feature the Ocean Medallion, a wearable device powered by a first-of-its-kind interactive technology platform within the O·C·E·A·N, One Cruise Experience Access Network. The Ocean Medallion enables a new level of personalisation that delivers an enhanced guest experience previously not available in the travel industry.

The Ocean Medallion enables endless holiday possibilities. It has no discernible technology – no on-off switch, no charging, no menu to navigate – and can be worn as a pendant on a wristband in a clip or simply placed in a pocket to reveal enhanced services and personalised experiences without guests having to push a button or take any action. Prior to their cruise, guests can provide their preferences and detail their wants, needs and desires so that their onboard experience can be personalised.

Ocean Medallion Class will be available from November 13, 2017 onboard Regal Princess, followed by Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in early 2018.

“It’s always exciting to see wearable devices and smart technology infiltrate new markets and excite new audiences. The Medallion is such an innovative concept for the travel industry, traditionally an early adopter and protagonist of using technology to improve the guest experience,” said John Weir, COO, Wearable Technology Show.
